The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanaoโ€™s (BARMM) continued progress since its inception in 2019 is once again recognized after the official data released by the Department of Finance (DOF) showed that four (4) provinces are now classified as first-income class.

According to the DOF Department Order No. 074.2024 which was signed by Finance Secretary Ralph Recto, Basilan, and Tawi-Tawi which were previously classified as third-income class, have now been upgraded to first class.
Further, Maguindanao del Sur, and Lanao del Sur retained their first-class classification.

Sulu, a province previously part of the Bangsamoro autonomous region, also achieved first-class status from its former status as second-income class.

The new classifications outlined in Department Order No. 074-2024 will take effect on January 1, 2025, in line with Section 9 of RA No. 11964 and Rule III, Section 10 of its Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR).
